Day 16
Another fun filled day today. Okay, that was said in my best Mom sarcastic voice, did you hear it? Surprisingly the English lessons are going well. We received the Emma Serl language book this last week. We were doing language lessons that I had printed off of the Internet, but with the lack of Internet and a functioning printer I ran out of copies rather early in the new school year. MFW recommended to use the Primary and Intermediate language lesson books by Emma Serl. I looked on Amazon and found them relatively cheep and ordered them. I knew that this week I would be out of my pre-printed lessons and was going to need something quick. When I received them, my Daughter started flipping through the pages and was enjoying the different poems and stories. My Son was less than thrilled with the new books. If this new book meant more writing he was not happy. Unfortunately I have a Son who is so mechanically minded, I can't get him to focus on anything. The only way I would probably be able to get his complete attention is if I sat an engine block on the table and let him go wild. Unfortunately, that doesn't help him with reading writing or math. I can explain to him that he needs the knowledge from all of those subjects even if he is only going to be a mechanic. Being my strong willed child, he doesn't think I know anything and I need to just leave him be. I braced myself for a fight when I introduced the new language lessons yesterday. He is already writing his vocabulary and his memory work so I expected him to flat refuse any more writing. These books are old reader type books. There is dictation and copying and memorizing three things I didn't expect he would accept. To my surprise, he is doing great. No he is not a person in love with writing now. In fact I'm sure most teachers would look at it and be horrified by his handwriting. I am taking each day as it comes and I will keep encouraging him to try harder. Maybe someday you will be able to read his writing. (I hope.)
